The Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University is a highly ranked program offering graduate students a unique educational and research experience. All of the Ph.D. students in the department are supported by their research advisors with a generous stipend that includes medical benefits (note that the cost of living in Texas is much cheaper than in other states).

Research within the department is highly interdisciplinary in nature with students interacting closely with faculty. Visiting scholars, industrial partners, and collaborations with other departments create a simulating environment for research. State-of-the-art computer laboratories and research equipment are available throughout the department providing students and faculty the tools to perform high-impact, challenging research.

The department offers Master of Engineering, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy programs. All of these programs provide the student with an advanced understanding of fundamental subjects such as transport phenomena, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics integrated with mathematics and science. Additionally, research forms a core component of the M.S. and the Ph.D. degree. The research that students in the department are working on ranges from highly applied research in the areas of biomass utilization, process safety, and hydrocarbon processing to very fundamental research in nanotechnology, life sciences, and molecular simulation. Students learn complex problem solving and computational skills that will aid them both in their graduate research and future careers.
